Racing down the track because some kids teased them for being too slow. And guess who blew past the competition and won the race?

When you see someone totally out of your league and remember yourself in your high school years. Couldn't even get a girl that good back then.

After buying this shirt from a popular corner store down the street, she realizes that it was a great decision. The people at the counter enjoyed her humor and gave her a deal of two for the price of one.

WarmUp 10/24/16

What emotions did you feel as you worked your way through these images?
Going through the photos of this beautiful woman battling her breast cancer made me feel both a little upset, but I was happy to see that he cared enough about his wife that he wanted to save each little special moment that he had left with her before she withered away.

The photographer said this: "These photographs do not define us, but they are us." What do you think about this comment now that you have looked at the photos?
I think that by this comment, he meant that she wasn't just a breast cancer patient, she was special and still tried her best to live her life to the fullest within the restrictions. And himself, he was just somebody taking photographs of a woman going through the stages of breast cancer, he was a loving husband supporting her to the best of his ability, letting her know that he was always going to be there with her through thick and thin.

Do you think you could shoot photos like this if you were in this situation?
I most definitely believe that I would be able to o this. Honestly, shooting these sorts of photos of someone that I loved and cared dearly for would obviously be tough, and would emotionally drain me reasonably quick -  but if it meant capturing the beauty and strength of the person I loved fighting something this hard I wouldn't hesitate for a second to do exactly this.

If you could write Angelo a letter, what would you say to him?
If I could ever write a letter to him, I probably would have said that he was a brave man to ever do something as simple yet as beautiful as this. I'd tell him it was an inspiriting series of photos of his wife and her struggle throughout breast cancer, and that he was one of the most loyal and caring man because of the fact that h stuck around and helped her through it. But most importantly, I'd tell him that I wished to be able to take the same quality photos as he did, with the same type of meaning, so that I could inspire more people to look at and take photos.

Africa

Image result for Nick Brandt Africa               The majority of this article is an interview describing why and how he got the idea and accomplished these photographs. He [ Nick Brandt ] explains his inspiration and subjects for his photos, telling the interviewer { and reader } that he wanted to show people the luxurious habitat that these beautiful  creatures live in. I specifically lived his reasons for which to do this and I loved how all of his colors were in black and white. It seems to give the photos more depth.

This photograph shows a silverback gorilla looking off into the distance as it emerges from the depths of the jungle. I like this photograph because of the somewhat hopeful look in his eyes. Some evident rules in this photograph are simplicity, avoiding mergers, fill the frame and framing. Simplicity because it is obvious that the gorilla is the main subject, Avoiding Mergers because of the leaves surrounding the subject, Fill the Frame because the gorilla takes up most to all of the photo and finally, Framing because the leaves create a natural frame around the gorilla.

He [ Nick Brandt ] uses a Pentax 67II with two fixed lenses because he believes that being so close to animals can make a huge difference depending on the type of camera and lenses that you use. He wrote; "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirits; you'd move in close."

His reasoning for taking these photos is that he wants to show the world the beauty behind the creatures that live amongst us. He wants to make sure we see how these animals live their lives every day, just as we would, but he wants us to also see their beauty in their natural habitat of the wild. His hope, by taking these photos, is to try and convince us not to harm these creatures just as we wish for them not to harm us. We shouldn't be any higher up on the food chain just because we can't help but ruin the lives of creatures different than ourselves.

He [ Nick Brandt ] has many things to say about his journey and exploration of Africa, but my favorite thing that he says about Africa probably has to be his motivation, his inspiration. In my opinion, I believe that it's just as beautiful as the photos he had taken. "There is something profoundly iconic, mythological even, about the animals of East and Southern Africa. There is also something deeply, emotionally stirring and affecting about the plains...punctuated by the graphically perfect acacia trees under the huge skies...This world is under a terrible threat, all of it is caused by us."

Great Black and White Photographers { Part III }

What first caught my eye was probably the fact that both of these have their own sense of mysterious beauty, and a certain suspense as to what had happened afterwards. I liked the one with the boy because the suspense behind the photo and I liked the photo with the flower in the cup of water because of the seemingly hidden beauty.
I see the wilting hope of survival for a weak little flower, who is trapped within the depth of the glass. I see a boy tenderly holding his new best friend as he looks into the camera, into my eyes, and into my soul. I see his parents trying to hurry him along, though he just wants to stop, rest, and play with what looks like to be a newborn puppy.

I smell the fading sweet scent of the flower as it continuously wilts alone in the emptiness of its containment. I smell the running water through the streets and the horrid smell of the sewage from surrounding buildings and restaurants. I smell the ruggedness from the dog and the other surrounding homeless people and people who really need a wash.

I hear the going throughout he streets. I hear the sound of cars and the never-ending sounds of engines running loudly hinting that a few drivers need to pay to get a proper muffler. I hear the silence that draws my focus more and into this motion-less flower.

The only thing I can taste is the sickly sweet taste of the water in the cup. I taste the bitterness of sickness in the air, however, the sweetness of the bakery next door helps to overpower my disgusted thoughts. The vile taste of almost bile taste occurring from the back of my throat.

I feel the slightly soft petals that slowly turn crunchy underneath my fingertips. The somewhat scratchy, somewhat smooth fur of the puppy's ears and soft head. I can also feel the soft fabric of the little boy's hat and overcoat.

I would make a powerpoint including all of my favorite photos of his and come up with reasons as to why I believe that they are phenomenal examples of important black and white photography in history because I believe that he was a great photographer throughout his life

Q & A for Mural Project

1.) What theme, that we could take here at school and think of the one for OFF campus too, could we do a series of these panels to p lace around the school?

A - The theme / subject that they chose for their project was the place that they live, and all of the photos that they took from around the city / state. One way that I believe we could take away from this is the inspiration and beauty from our surroundings.

2.) Should we use phone only, or should we open it up to our regular cameras for those people who don't have camera phones?

A - I would say that we should be able to use both DSLR  cameras and our phone cameras because my phone camera takes pretty good quality photos but a camera would also help to take even better.

3.) Where would you want to put the mural on campus?

A - I would want to put my photo mural either in the front office or near the library or in front of the cafeteria.
