Sports Portfolio Analysis - Portfolio Notes

Part I.

Portfolio #1 - Video #2

a.) The photographer is Travis Haughton.
b.) The general focus of the portfolio is around sports and children, though Haughton may have gone a little overboard on the focus of children and lost focus that the idea of the portfolio was supposed to over sports photos.
c.) Three problems I found in the portfolio was; lack of quality, repetitive photographs containing children, and the overall lack of meaning to the majority of Haughton's photos.
d.) Two things that the judges did like was how the moment captured in some - though few - of Haughton's photos seemed more genuine and less staged. They also admired the professionalism of the few well-done photos.
e.) My overall impression of the photographer is that he needs to look for more meaning and direction behind his photos, meaning he should definitely try harder to concentrate on the prompt given. Also, he could work to improve his quality of his photos. However, one photo of his that I did like was of the little girl drawing the cross because of the meaning of her following her religion, though I disliked the quality and lack of meaning that were evident in the majority of his photos.

Portfolio #2 - Video #4

a.) The photographer of this portfolio was Jordan Murph.
b.) The main focus of the portfolio was around sports and the players.
c.) Three things that the judges did not like was; his work on the last two stories he covered, the lack of diversity and purpose behind his photos, and the uncertainty of who the subject exactly was in a few of the photos.
d.) Two things that the did like, despite the section above, was the good quality of the composition and lighting.
e.) What I got from looking over Murph's photographs in his portfolio was that he is good at capturing action shots, mostly sports photos, but lacks the characteristics or ability to cover stories in a series of photos. Murph may have a future in sports photography, and maybe in landscacpe photography, but he should stick to that.

Portfolio #3 - Video #6

a.) The photographer of this portfolio is Sam Adams.
b.) The general focus of the portfolio is a story over biking and biking races.
c.) Three things that the judges did not like or approve of was; the lack of action in some - though not many - of his photos, the lack of quality, as well as the lack of meaning captured in those few bad shots.
d.) Two things that the judges did like, however, was the lighting of the photographs, as well as the silhouettes made in a few of those photographs.
e.) My overall impression of Adams' photography style is surprisingly negative. In my opinion, the only thing I can find that was good about Adams' photographs were the silhouette photos. Somehow, a photo that can be hard to get right - He got right. But photos that he tried to take that seem easy - He just didn't seem to get. If I had to decide the next part of Adams' career as a photographer, I probably wouldn't hire him and tell him he needs to look for another career.

Portfolio #4 - Video #12

a.) The photographer of this portfolio is actually the first girl's I've seen - Melissa Golden.
b.) The general focusPof the portfolio is "Nature, Family and Elders" not exactly over sports and such, but still well-captured.
c.) Three things that the judges did not like was; the quality of a few of the photos, the lack of meaning in said photos, and the uncertainty of the subject in a great majority of the photos.
d.) Two things they did like were her gecko photo and the portrait's of the old man.
e.) I don't have much to say about Golden's photos other than it seems like some of them were rushed or staged so that she could try to get a feel of a good moment, but it didn't seem to work out. However, she is good at her nature photos and her portraits, further proving my favorites as her gecko photo and portrait of the old man.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Part II.

a.) On the Photo-of-the-Year Review over the winner, Dustin Snipes' photographs and portfolio, Two big things that the judges did enjoy were the quality and depth of the photographs.
b.) I see that his strengths as a photographer are color, composition, and choice of framing. However, a weakness of his is capturing a quick moment shot.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Part III.

a.) The process of choosing a winner is done by multiple - almost hundreds - of candidates sending their photos in, then the judges slowly work their way through, bookmarking the best/better photographers over and over again until they reach a small handful. Once that small handful is reached, they make notes on which photographs are the most powerful, the most intense, the most meaningful. After they have narrowed it down even further, they can decide which photo out of the remaining it the best.

Merger Photo - Review (Q & A)

Using this photo, I answered the following questions;

1. Is there something you see in the photo above that could be a problem when you take your photos? Look carefully.
Answer - How the wind was blowing in one of the pictures, how she's not going anything in any of the photos, and how her shadow is at different places each time.
2. Where do you think would be a great place to take this type of picture here on the Bowie campus?
Answer - "The Pit" area of the courtyard would do just fine. That or sitting in the little garden area between the main office and the academic hall.
3. Can you think of something creative to actually DO in the photo when you take yours?
Answer - I could be playing frisbee and hanging out in multiple spots in the pit.
4. Is there something you could wear that could help you when you take this photo?
Answer - Athletic clothes would do just fine, or some jeans shorts and a short sleeved shirt.

Final Exam Planning

For my Final Exam Project, I will shoot the assignment this upcoming week at my mom's work, downtown at ACL Live next to the "W Hotel". I will be documenting the workers - bartenders, managers, security, electricians, and IT's - as the set up for shows and ready the place for both the bands and the public. I will need transportation (provided by my mom), and my camera. The video portion of this will be during the setup, a fast-forward of the Backline Crew setting up an preparing the instruments and equipment for the band. The images will the images will be before and after the fast-forwarded video in the middle. And lastly, my narration will be overlapping the three sections during the -4 minute period, with a little bit of underlying music.

Opinions Essay

Paying closer attention to the minds of our fellow class members

Each year, new students come to our school. New students with different personalities and problems, different families and backgrounds. Each year, more and more students flood in through the doors to their classes, moving themselves around through the crowded halls like "little fish". Among those students - especially those in their freshman year - have a tendency to seek out drama, even if it means hurting the feelings of someone they care about.
Bowie administration find it difficult to handle the 'situations', but they don't even look around the halls to stop the punches (both verbal and physical) that are thrown around like nothing, yet the words are taken to heart by most of these victims.
Being a victim of these confrontations myself, I can reflect the pain received by most other victims. However, even though Bowie staff and student council members are so proud of their 'No Place For Hate' achievements, the school still undergoes a heartbreaking amount of students who pass from suicide. A concern of mine is how many teens lives have been taken through their own hands because they have nobody else to turn to for help.
Over the last 5 years, about 8 teenagers from Bowie have taken their own lives, all because they were beaten down into the pit of depression. All of those deaths could have been either delayed or prevented if the district would put a little more funding to find some better, or some more, officers to patrol campus.
Now, with this suggestion out at hand, I understand that coming up with the funding to save a blasted tree from dying, I believe that the school board or school community could help to raise money to help future subjects of depression, or to make a memorial to commemorate those who have already departed us. Over the course of this year, I have had many losses, one of which was a student at this school. Out of respect for the family, they have not asked me to say his name. But, killing himself opened my eyes and I wish I had known how to help while I still had a chance. Some kind of way to put out there that they can get help would be wonderful as well, alongside the memorials for past students.
School board members also remember last year remember when the Senior Breakfast turned into a cruel Senior Roast. Mother of one of the roasted students, Josie Kendrick, spoke in an interview with CNN correspondents about the incident, saying "Suicide, depression in kids is real. It's a slippery slope. And I could see one of these silly awards hurting somebody so badly that they'll give up."
The words we send and the things we say - both behind someone's back and to their face - each little thing should be thought out before being said. A cry for help may be small, but it's recognition is very much needed at this school - both for the past losses and those looking towards harming themselves in the future.

Opinions Writing Preview Activity

Story 1. -  "Immigration laws getting out of hand"

1. Who wrote the story?
   - The Editorial
2. What is their story about?
   - The story is about the new immigration laws made by President Donald Trump based on out-dated, hateful stereotypes.
3. What is their direct opinion about the topic?
   - The author's opinion on the topic is negative, against the Trump Administration and the heavily enforced laws to increase deportation, stating that the laws are "breaking families apart as well as disrupting the workforce".
4. Did they address what the other side might think about their topic?
   - No, the author did not address the other side of the argument, the "xenophobes and racists".
5. Were they wish-washy with their opinion?
   - With the opinion of the author, which was stated in the last sentence of the third paragraph, was not wishy-washy. The evident opinion is that the Trump Administration in office "needs to stop demonizing immigrants and refugees".
6. Are there any quotes in the story?
   - The few quoted areas in the story are small things like "The United States is the "melting pot" of the world", and "When hateful rhetoric like, "get out of my country" and "build a wall" is told to minorities, fear becomes laced within whole communities' both citizens and non-citizens". However, there are no direct quotes because nobody was interviewed.
7. What point of view did they write in?
   - The point of view in the story is 3rd (third) person point-of-view.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Story 2. -  "Betsy DeVos unfit to serve as U.S Secretary of Education"

1. Who wrote the story?
   - Reagan Wallace, Staff Writer
2. What is their story about?
   - The appointed U.S Secretary of Education and how she should not be allowed in office, due to her lack of knowledge on the matter.
3. What is their direct opinion about the topic? (With a quote)
   - Wallace's opinion on the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVous is that she should not be allowed in office, with the lack of pre-requisite jobs or educational insight. Her opinion is openly stated "much to many teachers and parents' dismay".
4. Did they address what the other side might think about their topic?
   - Wallace does briefly address the positive side of the argument in the second paragraph, quoting that "DeVos has displayed beneficial visions for lower-income students and families".
5. Were they wish-washy with their opinion? (With support)
   - Wallace was not wishy-washy with her opinion on her side of the argument, keeping a firm stance on her side (the negatives) on Betsy DeVos' being appointed Secretary of Education.
6. Are there any quotes in the story?
   - There are no direct quotes in this story because nobody was interviewed other than the questions within the mind of the author.
7. What point of view did they write in?
   - This story, unlike the first one, was written in 1st (first) person point-of-view.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Story 3. -  "Going above the norm for college"

1. Who wrote the story?
   - The writer for this story is Staff Writer, Jake Brien.
2. What is their story about?
   - This story is about the usual expectations for colleges nowadays and what you can do to stand out, not to mention the author's advice and research on the costs for college.
3. What is their direct opinion about the topic? (With a quote)
   - It's hard to pick out where the opinion is stated and what it might be, but the opinion that I've found in this article was "the night's always darkest before the dawn" in the fifth paragraph, saying to be positive and try to keep your head up as high school can get you down but college can become the beacon of light that leads yo to your ideal future.
4. Did they address what the other side might think about their topic?
   - Brien does in fact talk about both of the sides, talking about the hardships and as well as the gifts that going to college can provide on the American students.
5. Were they wish-washy with their opinion? (With support)
   - I would say that this article was in fact, the most wishy-washy with it's support because of the back and forth switching between saying "college is essential" to "very hard to get in".
6. Are there any quotes in the story?
   - Since there was nobody interviewed in this article other than Brien, there are no quotes.
7. What point of view did they write in?
   - This article, like the first one, is written in 1st (first) person point-of-view.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Story 4. -  "Our great tree worth saving"

1. Who wrote the story?
   - The author of the story is Commentary Editor, Ian Miller.
2. What is their story about?
   - This story is about the tree in the courtyard and how the student body should try to make contributions to gain the money so that the school can save the almost 150 year old tree.
3. What is their direct opinion about the topic? (With a quote)
   - The direct opinion stated in the article is "it's absolutely worth the price [from the money contributions] to save it".
4. Did they address what the other side might think about their topic?
   - They, like most of the articles, briefly mention the opposing side of the situation, but do not go into detail about the whole thing.
5. Were they wish-washy with their opinion? (With support)
   - No, I would have to say that Miller is not wishy-washy in his opinion on this subject. If anything, he is headstrong and confident about his stance that the tree should in fact be saved by the school and community, no matter the cost.
6. Are there any quotes in the story?
   - There are, like all of the other articles in the Commentary section, no quotes because nobody other than the author themselves was interviewed.
7. What point of view did they write in?
   - Just like the majority of the stories in this section of the newspaper, it is written in 1st (first) person point-of-view.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Story 5. -  "The importance of physics class"

1. Who wrote the story?
   - The author of this article is Staff Writer, Abby Ong.
2. What is their story about?
   - This article is just as the headline states, the importance of physics class, even though it is no longer a required class to take unless you're in a STEM endorsement.
3. What is their direct opinion about the topic? (With a quote)
   - The direct opinion of Ong is that "students should consider  it", and says that "physics is [still] applicable to everyday life".
4. Did they address what the other side might think about their topic?
   - In this article, the mentioning of the opposing side of the argument is briefly mentioned somewhere in the middle of the article, but it isn't taken into a lot of consideration and is more pushed to the side.
5. Were they wish-washy with their opinion? (With support)
   - No, Ong was not at all wishy-washy with her opinion. Maybe a little flexible, but not wishy-washy.
6. Are there any quotes in the story?
   - Again, there no quotes because the only person that would have been interviewed would have been the author, Abby Ong.
7. What point of view did they write in?
   - The point-of-view of this article, like the second article, is in 1st (first) person point-of-view.
______________________________________________________________________________________

A. What do I think the major difference between a hard news story and an opinions piece?
   - Only shows one side of the argument.
   - No quotes from people being interviewed, because nobody from the author of the article was interviewed for the information in the article.
   - Articles can be written in either 1st (first) or 3rd (third) person point-of-view.
B. Why do I think there aren't very many photos on the pages A6-A7 of The Lone Star Dispatch newspaper?
   - I think there aren't many pictures because there aren't ways you can take pictures of an opinion.
C. What are three topics I think would be good to write an opinion piece on?
   - Lack of memorials to passed students on Bowie grounds.
   - Aggravating way that classes are arranged with pre-requisites nearly impossible to get into or grade limits.
   - Lack of writing extra-curricular clubs on campus for underclassman.

Peer Review SOM

Review of Aidan Smith's blog post - "Student of the Month Full Story"

On Monday April 10, 2017 Jenna Larner won the student of the month award. The award was given at Bowie High School last night.

Larner got the award at Bowie High School for being an outstanding student in all ways academically and her personality. There was an interview that was being asked for the student of the month. She was the most talented musician which got her far in the voting for the student of the month throughout the whole entire school.

Larner is involved with different school activities and is hoping to do more next year. "I am in band this year and I am hoping to be in marching band as well as band my sophomore year," Larner says. Larner would like to do more things for the school as well and is hoping to take a role in the school to make them happen. "I would like to become Vice President of the school or in student council and I would like to change the school by remodeling the whole school to make it a nicer campus,"Larner states.

As the student of the month Larner was asked some questions about what she would like to do in her future. Such as what college she would like to go to as well as where she would like to like. "I would like to be a physicshiatrist as well as go to UT. But I would like to stay somewhere in Texas," Larner states. Warner was expressing all that she wanted to accomplish in life and how she felt that she wanted to be an influence for her family as well as everyone else around her. She wants to help others but stay close to home to stay near to her family. She is already getting a good start to helping people by being in girl scouts and learning necessary life skills. "I am currently in girl scouts and loving every minute,"Larner says.

Larner wanted to show the importance of academics and the affect that it would have on everyone in the future. "The classes I will be taking next year are all pre-ap classes except for geometry. I will also be taking electives that will go along with what I want to do in my future,"Larner states. She is a very hardworking individual that knows what she wants. " I think that a trait I would be described as is hardworking,"Larner exclaimed! All of her teachers adore her and believe that she will go far in her career as well as schooling. She looks up to one teacher who has made a big impact on her life. "I look up to my teacher Mr. Thomas the most out of all of my teachers. He is so inspiring,"Larner states.

"Jenna Larner got awarded for student of the month because of her positive attitude to get through the good and the bad and her excitement to learn everything,"says Larners teacher Mr. Thomas. The next student of the month will be posted early May as teachers are now evaluating next months candidates.

Student of the Month Story

At James Bowie High School, it is almost like a rewarding tradition to, at the every month, to choose one student from each grade who has done exceptionally well in their classes - Meaning high grades and perfect attendance for that month. And, for the month of March, this achievement has been bestowed upon freshman Gail Roggerman. After a few words with the Student Body Class President - Brooke Everette - the two decided that she would get a certificate and the announcement would be plenty to announce her accomplishment and success to the rest of the school.
However, when asking around with a few other students at the school, they were all curious as to how the Student of the Month was chosen. Taking advantage of that little question, in a meeting with Everette, she explained a little more about the process of choosing the Student of the Month as well as why she had voted for Gail Roggerman to be the perfect fit.
"Choosing the Student of the Month," she said, "is difficult. However, you have to remember that you rewarding somebody who deserves it. We try to look for a student who has the best combination of good grades, volunteer hours, and close to perfect attendance. Looking over the nominations, it was definitely evident that Gail [Roggerman] was the perfect fit for this award," clarified Everette. Soon after word of Everette's interview, Roggerman agreed to an interview with the school newspaper, a few questions about both the process of selection, her reaction to the news, and Roggerman herself, were answered.
Asking about how Roggerman thought she had earned the award, she responded eagerly. "I keep my things organized and am encouraged by my parents to make a strong effort towards my schoolwork. Making time for my schoolwork is important, as is keeping time made out for my job and hours at the local animal shelter, but family is always my #1."
Then a question about her reaction after hearing the wonderful news. "I was at a party with my friends and parents. I heard the news from my friend, who actually also nominated me, Ashley Johnson. I got so confused and excited that shock was barely even an emotion I felt at the time. I immediately ran over to my parents to tell them the news, who embraced me and told me they were so proud of me. That was one of my best moments," said Roggerman.
After Roggerman had finished the explanation of her reaction, she stated she had advice for any students looking towards achieving this goal for any of the next 3 Students of the Month (April, May, and June). "You need to study and keep your things organized. Don't think that being with your friends will harm your grades, unless you're spending too much time with them," Roggerman said. "Find out what strategies for studying work best for you, and do projects as soon as you can. Also, skipping class can seem tempting, but do you really want that one absence to work against you for your EOC passes? Just try your hardest, do your schoolwork as soon as you can, get involved in extra-curricular activities, and enjoy high school."
One more meeting with Everette clarified that "news of the next Student of the Month will be announced on May 6th".

Nut Graf

A "Nut Graf" is a journalism slang term referring to the sentence/combination of sentences that summarize and capture the essence of the subject/topic of the story. "Nut Graf"s are usually the second and third paragraphs that are combined with evidence and details in relation with the topic and statements made.

Architecture Preview Assignment #1

Hundertwasserhaus (Forest Spiral, The Hundertwasser Building), Germany

1.)  The architect for this building is Friendensreich Hundertwasser, with co-architect/co-author Joseph Krawina.

2.) It was built in between the years of 1983 and 1985.

3.) It is located in Vienna, Austria, in the Landstraße district.

4.) This building is not private and is one of the most visited buildings in all of  Vienna, and it has now become an important addition to Austria's cultural heritage.

5.) No, there is no information on how much it cost, other than the fact that Friendensreich Hundertwasser built the building for free.

6.) Yes, it was built because the architect Friendensreich Hundertwasser wanted to build an apartment building, despite the discouragement from the court and nature on the lot, which actually brought a more colorful image to the building.

7.) I picked this building because I absolutely love this architect. After doing a background research project, I found out much more about this astonishing architect's pieces of art that he'd done throughout his life, including his buildings. After looking through the basic information and seeing that he was the lead architect of this building immediately set off a light bulb in my head that made me just immediately love it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kunsthaus Graz, Austria

1.)  The architect for this building is Colin Fournier who worked as a Partner-in-Charge alongside Peter Cook.

2.) It was built in 2003 for the European Capital of Culture  Celebration.

3.) It is located in Graz, Austria.

4.) This building is not private and is used as an important piece of the Austrian culture and as public art museum for both citizens and tourists.

5.) No, there is no information on how much it cost, but there is information about the amount of watts of fluorescent light are being used by the building - 9430 40 watt.

6.) Yes, it was built to be another part of the European Capital of Culture's Art Museum.

7.) I picked this building because when searching the image and seeing what the building looked like, I couldn't help but be intrigued by why it was created and what purpose it served in its community. Once I started reading it's description and reasoning behind why it was built, I knew it was definitely something I would be interested in seeing, so I decided to research about it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eden Project, United Kingdom

1.)  The architect for this building is prominent English architect Nicholas Grimshaw.

2.) It was built in May of the year 2000, but it wasn't opened to the public until 17 March 2001.

3.) It is located in St Blazey of Cornwall, United Kingdom.

4.) This building both private and not. There are some areas in which are private whereas there are also some areas that open to the eyes of the public - Such as the artwork and exhibits of some of the less in-need species being studied.

5.) No, there is no information on how much it cost, but the article does explain the trading and losses of money of the project, including the estimated annual surplus and contributions that it has given to the Cornish economy.

6.) Yes, it was built to be a reservation and area of study where scientists could help and try to redeem the lifestyles of multiple plant and insect species, as well as a host for some art shows for local artists.

7.) I picked this building because after reading its description, I fell in love with the idea and felt an invisible pull to this building/project, helping me to make the decision of choosing to research this  series of dome-like buildings to further educate myself on the project.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Habitat 67, Canada

1.)  The architect for this building is Israeli/Canadian architect Moshe Sadie.

2.) It was built in between April and October of the year 1967.

3.) It is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

4.) I would say that this building is, in fact, private only because of the fact the building is basically one large apartment complex holding 158 apartments.

5.) No, there is no information on how much it cost to build, but it does say that the reason it isn't any larger than it is, is because of the high per-unit cost of approximately C$140,000.

6.) Yes, it was built because it would be an improvement from any regular suburban home, but it would be better than any other apartment complex. The multileveled environments around the complex will also help to create an even more breathtaking view for a breathtaking complex.

7.) I picked this building because I was completely stunned at the beauty and originality/uniqueness that laid behind it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guggenheim Museum, Spain

1.)  The architect for this building is Canadian-American architect, Frank Gehry.

Bilbao - Guggenheim aurore.jpg2.) It was built in 1997, and opened to the public on the 18th of October of 1997.

3.) It is located in Abando, Bilbao, Spain.

4.) This building is not private, seeing as it's a public museum for modern and contemporary Spanish art.

5.) No, there is no exact information on how much it cost, but there is a little sidetone in the article saying that KLM Royal Ditch Airlines donated $1,000,000 towards the construction.

6.) Yes, it was built to be a museum of modern and contemporary art, as well as a gift to the newly inaugurated king (at the time) King Juan Carlos I.

7.) I picked this building because the name grabbed my attention and I greatly enjoy looking at the Spanish architecture and buildings. After learning the Spanish language, I find everything related to the culture absolutely fascinating. It may seem odd, since the architect of the building wasn't even Spanish, but it's the art inside and the location that really speaks of it's true beauty that makes me adore it so much.

Sports/Action Finale

1.) Personally, I would say that I agree with the quote "I believe that more and more, we are defining our environments not as the spaces themselves, in terms of the buildings or architecture, but rather by the objects and devices that we buy and surround ourselves with. ... I would like that message to carry through universally." (Richard Seymour, 3/1/15) because of it's blunt, truthful texture with a meaningful undertone. To me, it seems to be saying that the inside of our lives, without the outside being considered, what we should find most beautiful and important should be what is on the inside. I like believing this quote and meaning behind it should be how the world is because, just like how these booths would look without the commodities - a bare, cubed booths - is nothing compared to the bright personalities we hold inside - the commodities/toys/flowers/clothes/utensils. As an aspiring photographer, reading through this article makes me glad that this mindset is still one used when capturing art. I love how he seemed to perfectly capture everything, from the looks of the owners and their children to the items they were selling.

2.) I would most definitely enjoy visiting Yiwu, China and visit the Commodity City. Being able to visit there and take my own camera to capture my own emotions and perspective of this area would be amazing.

3.) To be the child of someone who worked in one of these booths could have one of two emotions on me. It should be very exciting to interact with foreigners and people of the community as I helped to sell  the products that my family helped to make, or it could make me very anxious and cranky that I had to work in such a small area with so little space to move around freely.

4.) My absolute favorite photograph has to be #8: Cuddly Toys because of the atmosphere that the image seems to give off. It's joyful background makes the buyer/viewer seem more comfortable and willing to buy from the smiling saleslady in the corner of the store.

Lone Star Dispatch - Issue #4 - Writing Evaluation

Story 1 - Black History Month / Raising awareness with music, food, art and alliance

Who? - This article talks about the students and people all around the world who are negligent of the reasons/culture behind Black History Month. Written by Fuuad Ajaz.

What? - Black History Month and why it's important.

When? - In the month of February.

Where? - The holiday occurs all around the world, yet the problems are also all over the world.

Why? - Trying to get the awareness that the culture behind the reasons of Black History Month because some people don't even know the reasons behind it.

How? - By keeping the students and adults in our campus up-to-date and informed with both the present and history of Black History, then we can more appreciate the importance and significance that it has on the world.

Who was quoted? - Multiple people were quoted in the article. Their names are as follows; Joyce Brisco, Amanda Pfeiffer, Oluwaseyi and Oluwaseun Odufuye, Jeremy Faulkner, and Vicki Hebert.

What is the strongest quote? - I think the quote that stood out the most to me was the one located in the center of the article. "People should educate themselves black historians then they should get the importance of staying educated, the importance of unity, of being brave, and always standing up for your rights." - Oluwaseun Odufuye

Was the lead sentence what intrigued you to keep reading? - One thing that intrigued me to continue reading was the amount of information contained in the paragraph, and how it stood out to me amongst the other articles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Story 2 - Principal search begins and ends here

Who? - This article talks about the search for the new principal, Mrs. Susan Leos, who is actually the intern/part-time principal we were going to have until we got our official one. Written by The Editorial.

What? - The article, as stated above, is about the search and find pf the new principal who was actually the intern-principal.

When? - When Mrs. Leos came to the school at the beginning of this school year, we all thought it would be temporary, but as stated in the strike published on February 10th of 2017, Mrs. Leos is the school's new principal.

Where? - The article's location is based here, at James Bowie High School of Austin, Texas.

Why? - The article may be considered important because if Mrs. Leos hadn't stepped in for the intern-principal job, we would have been without a temporary - not to mention permanent - principal for our school.

How? - As stated above, not having anybody in the principal's position for or school would have resulted in utter chaos, making this situation all the more positive in the hopes that she will actually do something beneficiary for the school.

Who was quoted? - There are no quotes in the article, therefore I cannot list any names quoted.

What is the strongest quote? - As stated above, there are no quotes to refer from, so I cannot list any.

Was the lead sentence what intrigued you to keep reading? - No, it was not the first/leading-sentence that kept me interested in the article, it was actually the combination of the first three 2-3 sentence paragraphs of the article.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Story 3 - Native Americans bring diversity into the community

Who? - The article is written about Native American transfer student Cody McDowell. Written by Shelby Kelly.

What? - The article talks about his family, differences between here and his old home.

When? - Cody had moved into the school near the beginning of the year, but the article was posted along with the issue on February 10th of 2017.

Where? - The articles subject is in Austin, so the location of the article is Austin, Texas.

Why? - The article brought this certain person up because the Native American community on our campus is rather small, and having a new addition to that group is worth a great deal for our school's diversity.

How? - The article brings up this topic in a casual way though I have taken it to be a light in the dark, or an elephant in the room, that shows us that most of our school's population is WHITE. This can effect our community and behaviors of the students around the school, so I believe we should honor people no matter of what religion or race they are. It should be equal all the same.

Who was quoted? - Multiple people were quoted. Their names are listed as follows; Cody McDowell, Emily McCullough, Ben Wheeler, and Bree Rolfe.

What is the strongest quote? - "I know a lot of people who are Native American, but as far as my knowledge and what I have been told I'm the only one of few, if not the only one, who's registered as Native American in AISD." - Cody McDowell.

Was the lead sentence what intrigued you to keep reading? - No, what actually intrigued me to see reading, was the title. After reading it, my attention was caught and I felt compelled to finish reading the article.

Front Pages of the World

My favorite newspaper front page out of all in the USA area would probably be the one to the right, the 'Daily Springfield Leader'. It caught my attention with the placement of the big picture and the creativity that it seems to show.

Believe it or not, my favorite headline isn't the one inside the picture "What's Going on with Real ID?" Mine is actually the one at the top, "Deportation Plan Unveiled". The reason this is my favorite headline is because I'm interested on how our government will try (most likely unable to succeed, however) to deport all illegal immigrants.

From what I can tell, the front page only goes into details about two stories, but the headline above the newspaper's name will count in my book as a story, so I'd say that there are three stories on the front page.

I notice that the spacing between the columns of text are the same for most newspapers, and most of the newspaper titles/names are located below the first headline, but are a larger text than any other on the page. Most front pages have a large main photograph to capture the attention of the reader as well.

Something I notice that's different between this front cover to others on the website, is that this one has a large photo to take up most of the space on the front page.

Extra Credit - Website Review and Rating

PetaPixel -

While looking over this website just from a quick glance over, you can that there's a lot going on, which could be resolved by simply having a more put together kind of stationary look. However, I like the way that the website is put together. Its purpose seems to be a type of blog/informational site that has links to articles all regarding photography styles or stories. When gathering these types of information, it's critical to get details correctly so that the articles get more links, but the hardest part would probably be the fact the ad-space is all over the place and taking up spots where more information to articles should be. Any average viewer interested in astonishing stories or breathtaking photograph styles would love this website, and it would be a great opportunity to add this to your bookmarks and recommend this website to a friend or family member that may be interested in the world of photography. I can say that I, myself, will add it to my 'Google Bookmarks' and will be recommending it to a fellow friend of photography when I get the chance. My overall rating of this website would definitely be a 4.5, with my only two problems about it being the cluttered header and too may ads covering the page.
Out of the many intriguing articles on this website, I believe that he most eye-catching one that caught my interest best, would have been the one about a Russian Model by the name of Viktoria Odinstova who is getting 'harshly criticized' because she was dangled willingly off a 1,000 tall skyscraper in Dubai for photoshoot without any permission, nor safety equipment to do such a thing. Not supposed to be allowed, she has been getting criticism and a few other people in her sponsoring pool took thought into if somebody with such a reckless spirit deserved the work that the com many had in store for her. This will definitely put a damper on her career and the possibility for her to have a good reputation for the rest of her modeling career. Though I believe that the photoshoot seemed to go well, she should have been more care and gotten the proper safety equipment just in case something went wrong. You can never be too careful. And in situation, I would rather look silly in a large amount of safety gear than to have none and slip to fall to my death unexpectedly.
